Dr. Joyce Nki

 

Rev. Dr. Joyce Nki was born in Meru, Kenya.  She received her Bachelor of Divinity from St. Paul’s United Theological College in Limuru, Kenya and commissioned to serve as a full-time Parish minister both in urban and rural congregation of the Methodist Church in Kenya and later ordained as clergy in 1987. She has also worked The Bible Society of Kenya as the main translator and director for the Kimeru Bible Translation Project.  In 1991, Dr. Nki joined Candler School of Theology, Emory University in Atlanta Georgia. After receiving a Master of Theology degree in Old Testament, she entered a Ph.D. program of the Department of Religion at Florida State University, where she concentrated in the area of Scripture and Interpretation.  She graduated in the summer of 2001 and joined the faculty of Bethune Cookman University that same year. 

Dr. Nki teaches courses in Biblical Studies and African Traditional Religion and works with students in civic engagement projects locally and internationally.
