Purpose

The Black Male College Explorers Program (BMCEP) at Bethune-Cookman University is a program
designed for at-risk males in grades 6-12. The purpose of the program is to promote academic
excellence and holistic male development. One of the objectives is to eliminate barriers that pose
a detriment so that program participants can maximize their full potential. The program offers
services such as mentoring, tutoring, college, and career exploration. Additionally, the program
seeks to build relationships with various industry leaders to aid in preparation and exploration of
technical careers that will prove to be sustainable to the student and their families. Through these
interventions we hope to increase the number of successful males who graduate high school and
complete a minimum of a bachelor's degree in college or a technical degree.
