BCC Homecoming 2006 "Wildcat Cinematic Celebration"

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Homecoming 2006 at Bethune-Cookman College promises to be a “WILDCAT CINEMATIC CELEBRATION”. The kickoff to the homecoming weekend festivities begins Friday, October 13 with the formal opening of two new campus facilities and ends Monday, October 16 with the Annual Founder’s Day Service at 10:20 AM.
The college community, alumni and weekend guests will begin the celebration with the dedication of the Center for Civic Engagement facility on Friday, October 13 at 2:00 PM. The Center, which includes a new Presidents’ Banquet Room, a student lounge and wellness center is located at 740 International Speedway. Following at 5:00 PM will be the Grand Opening of the new Alumni House at 558 Oak Street, and at 6:00 PM the Annual Homecoming Pep Rally. Admission to the Pep Rally is $15.00.
Saturday’s festivities will begin with the Annual Parade at 9:00 AM commencing at the Daytona Mall along Nova Road to Bethune Boulevard, south on Walnut Street, east on Oak Street, crossing MLK Boulevard and ending at the College’s entrance way.
Orlando philanthropist and community activist, Lucille O’Neal will serve as Grand Marshall of the 2006 Parade. A 2003 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Bethune-Cookman College, Ms. O’Neal is the director of the Southeast Region for the Odessa Chambliss Quality of Life Fund. Founded in memory of her mother, the Fund has established a generous scholarship endowment fund for nursing students at Bethune-Cookman College. Ms. O’Neal is also the proud mom of Miami Heat basketball star, Shaquille O’Neal.
Things are expected to heat up Saturday afternoon for exciting football as the Wildcats take on the Winston-Salem State University Rams in a first-time meet. Tickets are $25. Municipal Stadium parking will open at NOON – four hours before kickoff. All parking will be $5.00. There will be no overnight parking. Once the stadium parking areas are full, vehicles will be routed to satellite parking north of Municipal Stadium, where the parking fee is also $5 and includes shuttle service to the stadium.
Those wishing to tailgate should call Bryan Harvey as soon as possible at (386) 481-2606 to reserve a space. Currently only lakeside spaces are left at a cost of $50.00 which includes parking. Large commercial type smokers, commercial type deep barrel fryers, and commercial type grills will not be permitted.
On Monday, October 16, the College’s Annual Founder’s Day Celebration will be held at 10:20 AM in the Mary McLeod Bethune Performing Arts Center, culminating Homecoming 2006. Dr. James Brooks, Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities will be the featured speaker. Immediately following the Founder’s Day program, guests are invited to join the College Community in processing to the final resting place of founder Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune for the traditional laying of a wreath.
