Official Statement on the Passing of City of Daytona Beach
Mayor, Dr. Yvonne Scarlett Golden

The Bethune-Cookman College family joins me in expressing our deepest sympathy on the passing of our Mayor, Dr. Yvonne Scarlett Golden. As a member of the graduating class of 1950, Mayor Golden was a dear alumna and had a long and wonderful relationship with her alma mater. She was a cherished friend of the College and the entire community. We are most grateful and proud that her life exemplified the values, vision and ideals of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, under whose tutelage she built the framework for her many years of community service and educational leadership.

We will deeply miss Dr. Scarlett Golden for her friendship and commitment to the betterment of not only Bethune-Cookman College but also the entire city of Daytona Beach. Her passing has left a void that can never be filled. We want the Mayor’s family and close friends to know that we are keeping them closely in our hearts and prayers as they face the difficulties of life without her.
