We’ve Walked This Far By Faith
The campus of Bethune-Cookman University is excited to announce the grand opening of a new walking trail: "A Jericho Walk: A Walk of Faith." Students, faculty, and staff of the campus (as well as the community of Daytona Beach) are encouraged to support the university’s latest initiative on health and wellness.
In collaboration with this laudable occasion, the campus will be partnering with the creator of the Live for Life Tour- Papa Joe Aviance. Papa Joe Aviance, as he is affectionately called, is an entertainment guru who achieved (and has successfully maintained) a 200-pound weight loss through walking.
The one and a half mile "Walk of Faith" trail will kick off on April 4th, 2013 in Daytona Beach, FL at Bethune-Cookman University.
Registration will begin promptly at 8am in the General Studies Building parking lot, followed by the start of the walk at 9am. Prior to the grand opening of the trail, all participants will be able to hear positive opening remarks from B-CU’s own President- Dr. Edison O. Jackson, Papa Joe Aviance, and B-CU alumna-Ms. Lucille O’Neal (motivational speaker and author of Walk Like you Have Somewhere to Go).
During the event, the Odessa Chambliss Center for Health Equity will provide participants with blood pressure, weight, and Body Mass Index (BMI) screenings. They will distribute information about chronic illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and the effects of tobacco use. Information regarding upcoming smoking cessation classes and other wellness initiatives of the university will be announced as well.
With the unveiling of the 2013 B-CU Walk of Faith, the university will be able to raise both money and awareness for the programs and messages of health and wellness available through the Odessa Chambliss Center for Health Equity. All donations are tax deductible and 60 percent of the proceeds will aide in the goal of $5,000 for the health center. This walk is free of charge, so all are encouraged to attend. In the footsteps of our founder, let us "walk by faith."
