B-CU Enrollment Hits Historic High

Bethune-Cookman University continues a five-year march toward historic enrollment numbers as more students choose to attend the academically rigorous institution.

B-CU has surpassed enrollment projections and has hit an historic high of 3,787 students for fall 2013. The projected enrollment for fall 2013 was 3,471. The enrollment management team superseded that figure by 316 students, bringing B-CU to a record high.

“The current enrollment is an increase of 4 percent over our highest increase ever, which was in 2008,” said Dr. Willis Walter, vice president for institutional effectiveness. Also, it is the highest enrollment that the institution has ever experienced.

“This is the most students enrolled in school history,” said Dwaun J. Warmack, senior vice president of administration and student services. “We are heartened to see that more students have made Bethune-Cookman their first choice.”

Meanwhile, more students are competing for seats at Bethune-Cookman. B-CU had nearly 8,000 applicants, Warmack said. “That was a record number of applicants, and unfortunately we could not accept everyone,” he said.

Students from across the world see the value in a Bethune-Cookman education,” said President Edison O. Jackson. “We are focusing on academic excellence and that is drawing students who want a quality education.”
