3rd Annual Black Male Summit

The Four-Day Event Will Welcome Former NBA All-Star Kenny Anderson and Feature a Highly-Anticipated Academic Signing Day

Daytona Beach, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman University will welcome students and males in the community for its 3rd Annual Black Male Empowerment Summit.  The summit expects to attract more than 200 participants who will come together to fellowship and discuss several issues affecting Black males.  The summit is designed to offer positive images and healthy dialogue for Black males of all ages.  Participants can look forward to various speakers including President Jackson, former NBA All-Star Kenny Anderson and other celebrities.  The Black Male Summit kicks off on Wednesday, April 27th with the Socks & Bowtie Breakfast and culminates on Saturday, April 30th with the Black Male Explorers National Signing Day.  The summit is open to the public.  Most events are free with a student ID and $1.50 donation for others.

The closing event, National Signing Day, will showcase high school seniors as they reveal where they will attend college in the fall.  The rising freshmen will officially sign their letters of intent as a demonstration of their commitment to academic excellence.  “It is important that students understand that being academically sound is just as or even more critical than focusing on extracurricular activities such as sports,” says Jermaine McKinney, Director of Male Development Initiatives.  “We must also show them that academic achievement is to be celebrated just as we do with athleticism.”
