B-CU Alumnus Selected as New Deputy Superintendent for Dougherty County Public School System
Rodney Bullard, A Bethune-Cookman College Graduate Raises the Standard for Schools in the State of Georgia
Rodney Bullard, a 1991 B-CU Alumnus is the newly selected Deputy Superintendent for Dougherty County Public Schools. Bullard graduated with a Business Administration emphasis in Marketing degree and was a student athlete at B-CU. While fostering his talents and academia, Bullard also shared a passion for the youth. After graduation, Mr. Bullard returned to his hometown of Miller County and served as a volunteer coach and worked as a substitute teacher. Shortly after, he went back to school and earned a degree in education and became the assistant baseball coach at Albany State University.
Additionally, Mr. Bullard has an extensive resume in the educational sector where he has served as teacher, district curriculum director, high school principal, athletic director and more. Throughout his career, he has increased standardized test scores and graduation rates, implemented school improvement grants, decreased absenteeism, and was named the “2017 Advanced Placement Honor School,” according to the Georgia Department of Education. He currently serves as a member of the Talent for Turnaround and Leadership Academy with the U.S. Department of Education, and the Albany State Principal Preparation Program Initiative through the Wallace Foundation.
Mr. Bullard’s new role will be effective July 1, 2017. As deputy superintendent, Bullard will oversee all activities within the Division of Support Services, including Athletics, Ombudsman Services, Residency Verification (School Zoning), Student Discipline (Tribunals) and Student Support Services. He will also serve as the superintendent’s Chief of Staff and act on behalf of the Superintendent in his absence. "It’s a privilege and an honor to serve as the deputy superintendent of the Dougherty County School System," Bullard said. "I’m very excited about the opportunity to assist in the development of all stakeholders. I believe we have created a great foundation and I look forward to building upon that success." Mr. Bullard lives in Albany, Georgia with his lovely wife, Shay, and their three children and grandson, Aerial, Rodney Jr., Sydney and Aden.
