B-CU Raises $500,000 For UNCF Scholarships and Financial Support For Students

UNCF Partners with B-CU “Promise to the Future” Campaign in Support of Students

President Jackson with Sodexo

Bethune-Cookman University announced that more than $500,000 was raised this year toward the 2016 “Promise to the Future” Campaign, an annual giving initiative with UNCF. The “Promise to the Future” was established to support the strategic vision of the University by providing students with scholarships and financial support.  This year, faculty and staff donated a record amount to the campaign along with several community organizations.

Contributions were made on behalf of the B-CU Women’s Advisory Board ($15,000.00), The Daytona Beach Chapter of Links, Inc. ($1000.00), Omicron Tau Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. ($500.00), Daytona Beach Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. ($100.00), Daytona Beach Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. ($100.00), Beta Iota Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. ($250.00), Beta Delta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. ($1,000.00), B-CU Faculty Association ($500.00), B-CU Staff Association ($450.00), Sodexo and affiliates ($140,000.00), Giving to Rotunda ($237,531.75) and other supporters were each recognized for the financial impact. This year 58 faculty and staff made a commitment to the campaign and pledged $16,560.00 in aid for its students.

B-CU President, Dr. Edison O. Jackson acknowledged his appreciation of attendees. Donors who made generous contributions to advancing the university’s student population assisted in providing funds for books, housing and other amenities many students may not have been able to afford without these kinds of initiatives. “This past year the UNCF awarded B-CU $300,00.00 to provide graduating seniors the opportunity to graduate with a zero account balance so that they could advance into the workforce without an outstanding balance with the university,” said Dr. Jackson.

The Department of Institutional Advancement through the Office of Annual Giving endorsed the “Promise to the Future” campaign, challenging university alumni, faculty and staff to give back. Annual Giving Specialist, Edrico Ambrister stated, “I'm extremely thrilled by the participation of the faculty and staff over the past few months, recording the highest level of giving by faculty and staff yet.”  Ambrister showed his gratitude to President Jackson and the University participants. “I'd like to commend the participants for being dedicated to giving our students ample resources and financial support. Lives will be changed because of these gifts of love, and I hope that more faculty and staff will commit to the vision of this campaign going forward.”

The Office of Annual Giving will take charge in surging next year’s campaign, in hopes to increase funds and build the moral of the initiative among additional faculty and staff.
