The
servicing, and thus the retention of students, is the primary focus of
Student Affairs. Along with providing for the aforementioned basic
needs of the student population, non-academic/recreational student life
(activities) is an integral part of the Student Affairs Division. The
Student Activities Department is responsible for overseeing this aspect
and coordinating all campus activities and most off-campus,
student-oriented/school sponsored events.
Honda Campus All-Star Challenge
Sponsored by Honda
Motors, the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge is a national competition
between 64 Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Each year
institutions register for participation, conduct campus tournaments and
convene in the month of March for a week of academic challenges, social
activities and institutional networking. Students may be eligible for
five years, affording the opportunity for developing collegiate
relationships, socially and competitively. To participate in this
jeopardy-type game, registration is made through office of Student
Activities. Registration as a team of four is preferred but not
required. If registering singly, the student will be assigned to a
team. Campus tournaments are played during the months of October and
November. A varsity team is chosen through a single-elimination
process. High scoring individuals, though not a part of the winning
team, may be assigned to the varsity team, as deemed necessary or
appropriate by the HCASC Coach or Campus Coordinator.
Intramural Athletics and Recreational Sports
The
office of Student Activities, located on the 2nd floor of the Parlin
Student Center, coordinates intramural and recreational sports.
Included in this area are basketball, flag football, volleyball and
bowling. Table tennis, soccer, kickboxing and aerobics are offered
recreationally.
Cultural Affairs To
supplement classroom education, Bethune-Cookman University offers a
well-rounded program of cultural attractions including such activities
as plays, lectures, and musical performances by outstanding individuals
and groups. Many of these programs are free for all students upon
presentation of Bethune-Cookman University identification cards; others
are offered for a reasonable fee.
