B-CU Breaks School Record with 12,000+ Applications

The Wildcat Experience Florida Tour Spikes Student Interest

The B-CU Office of Admissions is making groundbreaking history with student applicants.  Thus far, there have been more than 12,000 applications submitted to B-CU.   The Office of Admissions and its new director, Manicia Finch, have implemented several new strategies to increase prospective student applications and improve the academic profile of the incoming class for Fall 2016.  The inaugural Wildcat Experience Tour  reached over 5,000 students across Florida and will be used as a continuous recruitment tool throughout the academic year.

On the Florida Tour, high school juniors and seniors were able to submit applications, receive on-site admission and scholarship offers along with application waivers. “Three thousand students were eligible for scholarship consideration,” said Finch. The tour was established to increase student engagement, branding, and to build strong relationships with high school administrators and B-CU alumni in surrounding cities and states. “The tours were a mega success!” said Finch, “Taking a complete B-CU experience into selected cities with the marching band, recruiters from each department and student volunteers throughout the State of Florida offered an amazing experience for the students, faculty and staff.”

The tour was spread across several counties in Florida and expanded to Georgia and Alabama with a new means of innovation for HBCUs using Skype recruiting sessions for communication and engagement. Finch stated, “This is the first of many virtual meet and greets we plan to use to gain quick access to prospective students in farther states.”  B-CU staff from the College of Business and School of Nursing collaborated in this effort to market students from WoodLawn and Baker High Schools in Birmingham, Al.

The Office of Admissions plans to hit the ground running for the new academic year. Finch states, “We have an awesome team that is really focused on working collaboratively with campus departments and connecting with school personnel in surrounding states.” The University and Office of Admissions is aiming to build the academic rigor among the student profile at B-CU. Our goal for the 2016-2017 school year is to increase student grade point averages, blitz recruit in several markets, and strengthen collaborations and support with all B-CU academic departments.
