What is EGG

We are pleased to inform you that the Bethune Cookman University (BCU) Youth Theology Institute (YTI) Exploring Gifts and Graces (EGG): Summer Adventure in Theology and Leadership Program, is an Eight (8) day Virtual Experience (not to include weekends) for rising juniors and seniors in high school to be held on-line.

We realize each of you were expecting the residential summer program to take place on campus at BCU this year, but because of the Coronavirus, the EGG program will be a virtual experience. The safety of all students and participants of the BCU community is important to us. All of the online programs we will be using are free (Zoom and Kahoot) and you can use either your smartphone or a computer to participate.

The on-line program is held from July 11th - 23th, 2021, beginning with an orientation for the parent and student on Sunday, July 12th at 4 pm. The EGG day will begin Monday, July 13th from 12-2 pm and 4 pm – 6 pm daily excluding Fridays going through 20th -24th, 2020. There will be workshops on theology, Bible, vocation, art workshops, and fun-filled activities. The program’s goals are to encourage faith, theological inquiry, and reflection on God’s gifts and calling. In addition, the program seeks to encourage artistic expressions of faith, to develop an awareness of diversity within the Christian community, and to connect faith and Scripture with real-life issues. EGG seeks to assist young people as they begin to live out their calling to serve God and the world and to prepare theologically minded and socially engaged youth as future leaders for the Church.

It’s all about...

Theology: You will have four Theology sessions to practice thinking theologically about the world and your place in it.

Bible Study: Four sessions in Bible will help you connect your ideas and experiences to Scripture in an academic setting.

Vocation: You will have classroom opportunities as well as reflection time to explore your own God-given gifts and graces and to imagine ways to use these in different types of Christian ministry.

Leadership: You will work in small groups and learn leadership and communication skills as well as practice teambuilding exercises on Adventure ropes and obstacle courses.

Community Service: Christian faith calls us to make a difference in our world and you will have several opportunities to put your faith into action.

The Arts: You are creative! Use your talents in music, art, speech, drama, or dance to help create a worship service designed and executed by EGG participants.

Worshipping Together: The EGG program begins and ends with a worship celebration but every day you will have time for prayer and praise.

Having Fun: You will have plenty of breaks during the day and free time will be provided on Friday nights for meet and greets, or chat and chews. An evening of a music concert, and hanging out with new friends who share your interests and Christian faith will be provided all through this virtual experience.
