The Practical Nursing program is a 12-month certificate program designed to prepare individuals to meet the needs of a patient base in both acute care and long-term care settings. The program is 1,350 clock hours (44.9 credit hours) in length. Students who are successful in completing the program will be eligible to take the NCLEX-PN Examination and will be awarded a certificate in Practical Nursing. Graduates will have employment opportunities in hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, doctor’s offices, and home healthcare to name a few.

Eligibility:

For consideration for admission to the Practical Nursing program, applications must meet the following requirements. All requirements must be met before an application will be considered. Only completed application packets will be reviewed.

  1. Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Complete the TABE (Test for Adult Basic Education) Exam. Students are permitted a maximum of two attempts at the TABE exam per calendar year. To pass, students must achieve the basic skills levels in the following subjects, as required by the Florida Department of Education:"
  3. Mathematics: 11 (596)
  4. Language: 11 (584)
  5. Reading: 11 (576)
  6. Submit a completed application to the Practical Nursing program by the posted deadline date.

Criteria for Selection

The number of students admitted to the program will be dependent upon faculty and space availability. No waiting list is maintained.

Meeting all minimum requirements for admission to the Practical Nursing program including achieving the prescribed TABE score, does not guarantee your acceptance in the program.

Applicants will not be admitted to the Practical Nursing program based on the following:

  1. Applicants committing a misdemeanor in the past 5 years; or having a felony conviction (ever) will not be admitted to the nursing program.
  2. Students having a positive drug screen will not be admitted to the nursing program
  3. Persons having felony convictions (ever) in any state or pleas of nolo contender (no contest) related to: health care fraud or abuse; unlawful possession or distribution of illegal substances or firearms; or aggravated assault are not eligible to apply to the nursing program.
  4. Persons having misdemeanors in the past five years in any state or pleas of nolo contender (no contest) related to: healthcare fraud or abuse, possession or distribution of illegal substances or firearms, or aggravated assault are not eligible to apply to the nursing program.
  5. Persons listed on the National Sexual Offender & Predator Registry are not eligible to apply to the nursing program.
  6. Persons who have held licensure in any other discipline, and were subject to disciplinary action or the license was suspended/revoked.
