Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)
Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU) has selected “Reimagining Innovations in Student Experiential learning” (RISE) as the topic of its Quality Enhancement Plan. Supported by its vision to define new standards for academic excellence and student success by educating and empowering learners who will seek their own solutions; advocate opportunities for all citizens to improve their quality of life; and inculcate global perspectives and realities to people worldwide, B-CU seeks to enhance student academic success through the infusion of evidence-based pedagogies on collaborative experiential learning and community partnerships within coursework and co-curricular activities to prepare undergraduate students with transferable competencies and skills which are essential for the modern workforce. Collaborative experiential learning is defined by the University , “as an active learning process for students to apply knowledge gained from hands-on and/or real-world settings and develop transferable, career-focused skills of argumentation/reasoning, flexibility/adaptability, and/or teamwork/collaboration through team-based experiences which promote cooperation and partnerships between individuals and groups at various levels, both inside and outside the institution.”
The RISE vision is to prepare students with real-world/hands-on experience throughout the undergraduate curriculum to improve their transferable soft skills and competencies, and to enhance their entry into workforce by showcasing students as Collaborative Experiential Learning Scholars. Thus, the program is designed to employ a combination of high impact practices of student-faculty engagement through curriculum infused pedagogy of collaborative learning assignments and capstone projects and community-based learning, and internships across undergraduate academic programs. The University, through this program, aims to fundamentally change the culture of teaching and learning by adapting more relevant, current event inspired, collaborative learning educational experiences for students at B-CU.
The RISE Mission is to enhance and expand collaborative learning opportunities and experiences for undergraduate students across the University.
