The program emphasizes excellent teaching with a commitment to student-faculty interaction. Individual talents, backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and insights are recognized and appreciated by faculty.

The mission of the School of Nursing (SON) is congruent with the mission of the university. It is dedicated to the provision of an education to a diverse student body that will instill a desire for leadership and service to a diverse global community. Our goal is to graduate competent, visionary Professional Nurse Leaders who are at the forefront of innovative, culturally sensitive healthcare practices that promote human flourishing. The faculty believe that baccalaureate education is the basic preparation for professional nursing practice. As a faculty, our purpose is to prepare professional nurse leaders who are excellent health care providers, engaged with local and global communities, and who serve as advocates for health equity. We are grounded in Mary McLeod Bethune’s holistic merger of academics (Head), skills (Hand), and activism (Heart). We honor her desire that faculty strive to be true to values of the university, maintain a spirit of service, and be comprehensively prepared and effective in our discipline of nursing. Service learning is a vital strategy to prepare students as knowledgeable community leaders. These learning experiences reinforce the values of life-long learning and service.
Nursing, BSN
The School of Nursing offers a nursing program that educates individuals to become registered nurses at the baccalaureate degree level. The program is 120 credit hours in length, and designed to complete in 8 semesters or 4 regular academic years. The program produces competent, visionary professional nurse leaders who are at the forefront of innovative, culturally sensitive healthcare practices that promote human flourishing. This faith-based program prepares a nurse generalist for professional practice by using knowledge derived from the liberal arts, biological sciences, physical sciences, behavioral sciences, and nursing. Graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination- RN (NCLEX-RN).

For consideration for admission to the nursing program, applicants must meet the following requirements. All requirements must be met before an application will be considered. Only completed application packets will be reviewed. The deadline date for submission is May 15th. No application will be accepted after the deadline date.
Students are required to:
- Complete all prerequisite course requirements with a grade of C or better. These 8 courses must be successfully completed before your application will be reviewed.
- NU 112: Introduction to Nursing
This course is specific to Bethune-Cookman University’s nursing program and must be taken at Bethune-Cookman University. It is offered online each fall, spring and summer semester. It may not be taken after the submission deadline date. It must be completed before the submission deadline date for your application to be considered.

- Anatomy & Physiology I and II; or BI 237 at Bethune-Cookman University
- Introduction to Chemistry
- Developmental Psychology
- Take and achieve the benchmarked scores on the TEAS Exam (Test of Essential Academic Skills). Scores over 3 years old may not be used. TEAS scores must be attached to the application or submitted at the time of application. An application will be deemed incomplete without TEAS scores and will not be reviewed. This requirement must be met at the time of application. TEAS scores will not be accepted after the application deadline date.

- GPA of 2.8 or higher.
- Submit unofficial transcripts from all colleges/universities attended. Transcripts must be attached to the application or submitted at the time of application. An application will be deemed incomplete without transcripts and will not be reviewed. This requirement must be met at the time of application. Transcripts will not be accepted after the application deadline date.
- Submit all information by the deadline date.
In addition to an incomplete application, applicants will not be admitted to nursing program based on the following:
- Applicants committing a misdemeanor in the past 5 years or a felony conviction (ever) will not be admitted to the nursing program.
- Students having a positive drug screen will not be admitted to the nursing program.
- Persons listed on the National Sexual Offender & Predator Registry are not eligible to apply to the program.
- Persons who have held or hold licensure in another discipline, and were subject to disciplinary action are not eligible to apply.
Clinical Placement COVID-19 Requirements for Halifax Health:
According to the Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services Conditions of Participation, hospitals are to ensure their staff- including students and interns- are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by February 28, 2022. Newly hired or contracted staff- including students- shall be fully vaccinated prior to placement at Halifax Health and its facilities.

Certified Nursing Assistant Program
The Certified Nursing Assistant Program is designed to prepare individuals to meet the basic care needs of a patient base in both acute and long-term care settings. It prepares students to function as nursing assistants in nursing centers, hospitals, and home care settings. The program is 172 clock hours in length (6 credit hours) and designed to complete in 8 weeks. Students will also be provided with optional instruction in medication administration. This includes instruction in medication administration.
Students successfully completing the program will be eligible to take the Nursing Assistant Competency Examination and will be awarded certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant and as a Certified Medication Technician.
