Bethune-Cookman University prioritizes two-way communication and aims to provide accurate, timely, and ethical information to the public and media. The University values integrity, transparency, and professionalism in all interactions, following the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Member Code of Ethics.

Designated Media Contact

All media inquiries and outreach must be directed through the Office of University Marketing and Communications (OUMC). Faculty and staff are required to coordinate with OUMC before speaking with media professionals and journalists or initiating media contact.

Media Access to Campus

  • Media must obtain prior approval from OUMC to enter any campus location.
  • Access is restricted for classrooms, offices, and residence halls without explicit authorization.
  • Media professionals violating these procedures will be asked to leave the premises.
  • In emergencies, media may be restricted to designated areas for safety and law enforcement coordination.

News Conferences

Only OUMC is authorized to hold official University news conferences, except for Athletics, which may manage its own as necessary.

Spokespeople

Public comments on behalf of B-CU will be made only by designated spokespersons or subject matter experts, appointed by senior leadership or OUMC.

Expectations of the Media

B-CU expects journalists to maintain professional and ethical conduct when interacting with University personnel or on campus. Access may be denied to those who do not meet these standards.
