MUREP: Minority University Research and Education Project
Data Science Equity, Access and Priority (DEAP) Institute for Research and Education
Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU) received $1.5 million award from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) through the NASA’s MUREP program to develop and establish a multi-university Institute of DEAP (Data Science Equity, Access and Priority. The NASA MUREP DEAP Institute is a three-university consortium, led by B-CU and partner with Alabama A&M University (AAMU) and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU).
The DEAP Institute supports NASA’s Data Science-focused research to conduct Data Science research and capacity building initiatives at the partnering universities. The DEAP Institute’s three universities collaborate to provide selected scholars with tailored learning, research, and internship experiences and other innovative resources for students to be trained in Data Science.
The NASA Partnership provides and increases opportunities of (1) conducting collaborative research with other HBCUs and other universities; (2) using NASA data and products in research; (3) collaboration with NASA scientists; (4) student internships at NASA Centers; (5) providing continuous and peer learning experiences; and (6) collaborative publications and further joint grant applications.
