An Update from the Bethune-Cookman University Presidential Search Committee

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Wednesday, February 7, 2024 - In our role as stewards of the cherished legacy left by our beloved Founder, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, the Bethune-Cookman University Presidential Search Committee continues to advance in the process of selecting the eighth president of our storied institution.

With a deep sense of responsibility for selecting the University’s next leader, the Committee has diligently reviewed applications in the initial round of evaluations for potential candidates.

The meticulous and thoughtful nature of our approach reflects our profound respect for B-CU and its future. Our focus in conducting these interviews is unwavering: to identify the ideal leader who will guide Bethune-Cookman University to new heights of excellence.

In doing so, we are informed by the reality that Bethune-Cookman University is but one of approximately twenty HBCUs with presidential vacancies. The awareness that we are not alone is, however, less consoling than it is taxing, as it makes our efforts even more challenging.

As the Presidential Search Committee continues its work, the Board of Trustees is extremely grateful for the progress the University continues to make under the experienced leadership of Provost and Acting President William Berry, Ph.D., alongside our committed faculty, staff, and administrators who remain dedicated to serving our promising students.

The Bethune-Cookman University Board of Trustees and Presidential Search Committee extend sincere appreciation for the continuing support and understanding from the University's diverse constituency of alumni, students, faculty, administrators, donors, and community supporters as we work towards this significant decision.

Together, we are shaping the future of Bethune-Cookman University, and your cooperation is pivotal to our success.

Please stay tuned for further updates.

Hail Wildcats!
